The current restrictions for visitors of Residential Aged Care Facilities are;

  • a maximum of five people may visit each day per resident (The maximum number of visitors each day (up to 5) per resident will be determined per facility when making your visitor appointment with St Basil’s)
  • different people may visit each day
  • all visitors must wear a mask inside the facility

The following visitors must be excluded:

  • have COVID-19 symptoms – fever (37. 5°C or higher) or symptoms of COVID-19
  • have been to any NSW, Interstate or Overseas locations listed in the current areas of concern at the dates and times listed for 14 days after they have visited the location
  • live in a household with a person who is currently self-isolating
  • are a close contact of a person confirmed with COVID within their self-isolation period
  • are waiting for a COVID-19 test result

Visitors who live in the Border Region of NSW are able to visit NSW facilities, even if they have been in Victoria recently. Visitors who live in the Victoria are not able to visit NSW facilities unless there are compelling compassionate reasons or they are providing essential care.

NSW Health’s latest advice to Residential Aged Care Facilities is that facilities are open to visitors with the
following conditions for the Greater Sydney region;

– a maximum of two people can visit each day may be admitted per resident
– different people may visit each day
– all visitors must wear masks

The following visitors must be excluded:
– have COVID-19 symptoms – fever (37. 5°C or higher) or symptoms of COVID-19 (acute blocked nose
congestion has been added to the list of symptoms)
– have been to any of the latest COVID-19 locations in NSW (including the casual contacts list) at the
times and dates listed during the last 14 days, except for the monitor for symptoms list
– live in a household with a person who is currently self-isolating
– are a close contact of a person confirmed with COVID within their self-isolation period
– are waiting for a COVID-19 test result
– are from areas where there has been increased testing unless they are providing essential care to
residents or are attending for compassionate reasons. Areas where there’s increased testing are
Cumberland City Council, Canterbury, Mount Druitt, Northern Beaches Council and Rooty Hill

Note that our Lakemba facility has reverted back to restricted visitation which allows two attendees per visit per resident, once per week.

Today, NSW Health has provided new instructions in the restrictions for aged care providers that will take place as of 8th January 2021.

All aged care facilities must restrict visitors and outings until 6th January 2021.

The Federal Minister for Aged Care Services says thank you for the hard work, commitment and compassion of our workforce.

NSW Health have released updated rules and recommendations for aged care facilities which apply till 11:59pm on 30 December.

Due to the cluster in the Northern Beaches we advise new visitation rules and recommendations until midnight 23rd December. We expect a further update from NSW Health for dates thereafter.

St Basil’s is pleased to advise that the NSW government has determined that the threat posed by COVID-19 to aged care facilities has started to recede. Whilst the threat is still present, some guidelines for the recommencement of visitation is provided here.

Recent changes mean that St Basil’s is now able to offer increased visitor access into the facilities. Whilst we wait to see if any more changes will come through in the next two weeks, we have set out some guidance for families and friends based on the current public health advice and an update from NSW Health on their expectations for visitation over the Christmas period.
