Residential Care at St Basil’s

There are hundreds of aged care facilities from which to choose. They vary in terms of the quality and age of the building, the programs on offer, culture, look and feel, food, clinical systems and even gardens. They also vary in terms of costs for accommodation and care.

How To Have Access To Residential Aged Care?

Before moving into an aged care home you will need to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team, also known as ACAT* in NSW and the ACT. ACAT’s are usually located in hospitals and comprise multidisciplinary team members such as geriatricians, nurses, social workers and physiotherapist. ACAT’s can visit you at home or in hospital. The free ACAT assessment determines the level of care and support you require and the options available to you, these may include receiving help at home or in an aged care facility. No aged care facility will be able to offer you care without an aged care assessment. To book an aged care assessment, you can talk to your doctor and he will arrange it.

Another way is to visit or telephone your local hospital and ask to speak with the Aged Care Assessment Team. An appointment with an Aged Care Assessment Team can be booked through MyAgedCare on 1800 200 422 or online.

What Our People Say

“I would highly recommend St Basil’s Miranda to anyone who wants to get looked after properly in the last years of their life.” Paul Aitken, son of the late John Broeders

I would just like to say our father John Broeders recently passed away at St Basil’s. I would like to take this opportunity to say how impressed we were with the facility and the staff that worked there they did a fantastic job and nothing was ever a problem.

I would also like to say Maryanne the General Manager was a tower of strength for us at a very difficult time with family etc, she kept us fully informed all the way and made our life much easier to deal with massive family issues we were having at a very stressful time.

Once again I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants to get looked after properly in the last years of their life.

“I can’t imagine leaving this home because I love it too much,” Angeliki, resident at St Basil’s Randwick

I like to sing along with the musical entertainers who come to the home. My brother was a musician who played the accordion so I am very fond of live music, explains Angeliki.

I have three children who come to see and call me often; two daughters and one son. I also have five grandchildren.

I used to cook a lot, now others cook for me – and I love eating everything. I would cook Dolmathakia and Pastitsio, they were the favourites among my grandchildren.

Angeliki

I used to have a small garden but I am in the ideal surrounds here, to have a garden and not have to do the work. I have a view of the green and space which is like a country view, yet we are in Sydney. Variety of the food is quite good and I like the bbqs… I’m never hungry between meals. We have morning and afternoon tea here. Most times someone is around to make a coffee for you or I get a small glass of milk rather than a coffee.

Clare

Not having to wash up and do shopping anymore is good… being here has taken the stress off the spine and this will help me avoid an operation, which I couldn’t do at my age. I go for a walk over to Coles and up to the RSL to meet people. I enjoy spending time in my room. I like to read and listen to classical music. Bus trips are good and having lunch out. You might not want to buy anything but trips get you out. I think they are essential. It is lovely and I enjoy it.
