His Eminence Archbishop Makarios Griniezakis

President (Since 9th May 2019)

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia (Griniezakis) was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1973. Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church of Australia and of all Oceania since May 2019. Universities of Boston, (Master of Sacred Theology), Harvard, (Master of Arts), and Monash, (Master of Bioethics), University of Crete (Doctor of Philosophy) published under the title, “Cloning: Social, Ethical and Theological Components”. Since 2003 His Eminence has been teaching at the Patriarchal Academy of Crete. Simultaneously, His Eminence has served as a visiting Professor to various Universities, amongst which are the Theological College of Holy Cross in Boston, the University of Tartu and the Medical Schools of the Universities of Crete, Thessaly and Athens. In May 2015, he was elected as the first Dean of the Department of Orthodox Studies in the Autonomous Church of Estonia. He has served as a priest in the USA and Crete also serving as a Bishop in Crete and Estonia. He is the President of the Synodal Committee for Bioethics of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. His Eminence has been the Director and President of St Basil’s Homes since 9th May 2019.

B.Comm., LL.B. Principal Solicitor, Jordan Djundja Solicitors in Sydney; Advisor to Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Council; Mayor of Kogarah Council 1997-1998; Current or past president of various veterans, alumni, sporting and community organisations. Has been a member of the Charity since April 1992; member of the Board of Directors since October 2000. Vice-Chairman of the Charity since October 2006. Chairman since November 2015.

Dr Theo Penklis

Vice Chairman

Dr Penklis is a General Practitioner who holds a Bachelor of Science (University of Sydney), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (University of NSW). He was the principal doctor at Rose Bay Family Medical Centre from 1989 to 2024. He now consults privately. He is Vice President of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia Consolidated Trust and Archdiocesan Council. He was Chairman of St Andrew’s Brotherhood (2005 to 2019). He has been a member of St Basil’s Homes since March 2006, a Director of St Basil’s Homes since 2008 and Vice Chairman since November 2017.

Member of the Charity since 10th July 2001; Director of St Basil’s since 18th December 2001. Greg is also the director of the Bank of Sydney.

Mr Kos Dimitriou

Chartered Tax Adviser – The Tax Institute, 2004 – 2006 Diploma of Legal Practice (Tax) -Sydney University. On 4th October 2002, Kos was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Graduated from B Comm (Acctg) / B.Laws at UWS.

Kos is a tax lawyer with over 20 years of experience in finance & taxation, holding senior roles in the profession and as a Head of Tax; Tax Counsel and CFO in commerce across a range of sectors. Kos presents and has authored technical papers on tax, accounting and leadership to various industry bodies, forums and advises the Government and Australian Taxation Office on tax policy and law design. Kos is a member of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Council, President of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Inter-Communities Council of NSW, President of the Parish and Community of St Ioannis Parramatta and Chairman of Greek Orthodox Charitable Foundation. Kos has been a Director of St Basil’s Homes since 2013.

Mrs Amelia Katsogiannis

Bachelor of Science and Diploma of Education (University of Sydney) and a Masters of Educational Administration (University of NSW).

Amelia is the Head of St Spyridon College, a Greek Orthodox co-educational school for students Kinder Minus One to Year 12. Amelia serves on various National and State Independent Schools Advisory groups. She has been a member of St Basil’s Homes since 2012, a Director of St Basil’s Homes since 2024.

Mr Peter Kaliaropoulos

Director

Peter has held senior executive roles in the information and communications technology sector in Australia, Asia Pacific, North America, and the Middle East. He has led the transformation of various listed companies and has also served as a Board Director. Peter holds a B. Eng (Elec) degree from UNSW and an MBA from Macquarie University.

Diana Horvatovic

Diana Horvatovic

Chief Executive Officer

Diana Horvatovic is the Chief Executive Officer and formerly the Director of Quality, Risk and Compliance, both vital roles for St Basil’s.

She brings over 16 years of experience that includes Directorate positions for the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in the Office of Aged Care Quality and Compliance, as well as with other leading aged care providers.

Rosa Young

Rosa Young

Chief Operating Officer

The newly created COO position has been filled by Rosa Young, who previously left St Basils in 2024 to work for a disability provider.

Rosa has over 14 years’ experience, in Aged Care and Disability operations, people and change management, process improvement, project management and quality.

Rosa has led numerous mid- large sized operations teams, including customer service, sales, service delivery, compliance & quality.

Rosa’s brings strong experience in financial and business acumen, having led previous struggling organisations to meet financial KPIs whilst ensuring delivery of safe and quality care.

Rosa successfully transformed the Home Care portfolio ensuring compliance, positive cultural change and financial improvements whilst at St Basil’s.

Director of People, Learning & Culture

Leanne Burns joined St Basil’s as Director of People, Learning & Culture in January 2024. Leanne has extensive experience in the People and Culture field gained from her work as an executive level strategic business partner in a wide range of national and international workplaces.

Stacy Flanagan

Stacy Flanagan

Chief Financial Officer

Stacy Flanagan joined the Executive Team at St Basil’s bringing with her a deep understanding of the aged care industry and extensive experience in the not-for-profit health sector. Stacy is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and spent the earlier years of her career working as an auditor in two of the large accounting firms in the UK and in Australia. Stacy has a breadth of experience working with a wide range of companies including listed companies, mediumsized private companies and subsidiaries of internal companies, and across a variety of industries. Stacy has also served on the Board of small-sized charities.
